Error Message

Sorry, should have posted this earlier

This is the error message I get

ALSA lib control.c:909:(snd_ctl_open_noupdate) Invalid CTL /dev/mixer
Failed to open mixer device /dev/mixer

I've tried every other possibility I can think of with exactly the same outcome each time
